April is Poetry Month

All month long I'm going to post poems on our blog and send them to you.  Read them to your class if you find one that speaks to you.  We have lots of poetry websites on our Highland blog for students to explore as well.  If you have a favorite poem that you'd like to share see me and we would love to host you as a guest poster!

I've loved this poem since I was a young bookish girl.  I had a small Little Golden book that featured poetry by famous people.  This was one:

The Swing

How do you like to go up in a swing,
Up in the air so blue?
Oh, I do think it the pleasantest thing
   Ever a child can do!

Up in the air and over the wall,
Till I can see so wide,
Rivers and trees and cattle and all
   Over the countryside-

Till I look down on the garden green,
Down on the roof so brown-
Up in the air I go flying again,
Up in the air and down!

~Robert Louis Stevenson
